2019 Find Your Light Foundation Gala
On May 4, 2019, the Young Musicians Choral Orchestra sang its way into the hearts of many at the annual gala fundraiser for the Find Your Light Foundation. This is YMCO's second time performing "You Raise Me Up" with Josh Groban, and the YMCO String Quartet was invited to perform during the reception!
World-renowned singer, Josh Groban, established the foundation four years ago at the suggestion of some of his friends. In that short amount of time, he has raised and given away millions of dollars to bring the arts into the lives of under privileged children. On this special night, a whopping $1.4 million was raised!
On this evening, the grand ballroom at the Ritz Carlton Hotel Half Moon Bay was transformed into a beautiful site for a dinner, an auction, and a show-stopping performance with the YMCO chorus. This year's guest artists included Sarah McLachlan and Ben Folds.
The legendary TONY BENNETT was honored with an award and sat in the front table; a few of our students lost it when he locked eyes with a few of them.
The chorus sang excerpts from “West Side Story” and backed up Josh Groban on his huge hit, “You Raise Me Up.” They received very enthusiastic applause and a standing ovation! This was indeed a real triumph for YMCO. The chorus was trained by Jim Meredith, YMCO Voice Department Chair.
The performances of "West Side Story Medley" and "You Raise Me Up" with Josh Groban can be seen on our Youtube page!
